Exploring Steel Flange Standards and their Application Scenarios Worldwide

Introduction:

Steel flanges are essential components used to connect pipes, valves, pumps, and other equipment in various industries. They provide a secure and leak-free connection, ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of different systems. However, it is crucial to understand that different countries have their own steel flange standards to ensure compatibility and safety. In this blog, we will explore the steel flange standards of various countries and their application scenarios.

Understanding Steel Flange Standards:

Steel flange standards specify the dimensions, materials, and technical requirements for manufacturing flanges. These standards ensure the compatibility and interchangeability of flanges from different manufacturers across the world. Let’s delve into some internationally recognized steel flange standards:

1. National Standard Flange (China – GB9112-2000):

The GB9112-2000 is the national standard flange used in China. It comprises several sub-standards, such as GB9113-2000 to GB9123-2000. These standards cover various types of flanges, including Welding Neck (WN), Slip-On (SO), Blind (BL), Threaded (TH), Lap Joint (LJ), and Socket Welding (SW).

2. American Standard Flange (USA – ANSI B16.5, ANSI B16.47):

The ANSI B16.5 standard is widely used in the United States. It covers flanges with ratings like Class 150, 300, 600, 900, and 1500. Additionally, ANSI B16.47 encompasses flanges with larger sizes and higher pressure ratings, available in different types such as WN, SO, BL, TH, LJ, and SW.

3. Japanese Standard Flange (Japan – JIS B2220):

Japan follows the JIS B2220 standard for steel flanges. This standard classifies flanges into 5K, 10K, 16K, and 20K ratings. Like other standards, it also includes different types of flanges such as PL, SO, and BL.

4. German Standard Flange (Germany – DIN):

The German standard for flanges is referred to as DIN. This standard encompasses various specifications like DIN2527, 2543, 2545, 2566, 2572, 2573, 2576, 2631, 2632, 2633, 2634, and 2638. These specifications cover flange types such as PL, SO, WN, BL, and TH.

5. Italian Standard Flange (Italy – UNI):

Italy adopts the UNI standard for steel flanges, which includes specifications like UNI2276, 2277, 2278, 6083, 6084, 6088, 6089, 2299, 2280, 2281, 2282, and 2283. These specifications cover flange types including PL, SO, WN, BL, and TH.

6. British Standard Flange (UK – BS4504):

The British Standard Flange, also known as BS4504, is used in the United Kingdom. It ensures compatibility and safety in the British piping systems.

7. Ministry of Chemical Industry Standards (China – HG):

China’s Ministry of Chemical Industry has defined a range of standards for steel flanges, such as HG5010-52 to HG5028-58, HGJ44-91 to HGJ65-91, HG20592-97 (HG20593-97 to HG20614-97), and HG20615-97 (HG20616-97 to HG20635-97). These standards are specifically designed for the chemical industry.

8. Mechanical Department Standards (China – JB/T):

The Mechanical Department in China has also established various standards for steel flanges, such as JB81-94 to JB86-94 and JB/T79-94 to J. These standards cater to the requirements of mechanical systems.

Jindalai Steel Group has modern production lines, one-stop production of smelting, forging and turning, specializing in forging large diameter, flat welding, butt welding and pressure vessel flanges, etc., national standard, American standard, Japanese standard, British standard, German standard and non-standard flange, and accept customized drawings.
